Accessibility
Everyone's welcome in the attic
We want everyone to be able to browse and buy from Attic & Ember, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification, voice control or other assistive technology.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We check the site with automated accessibility tests and by hand: with a keyboard alone, zoomed in, on a small phone screen and with motion turned down.
What we've done
- Every photo has a text description, and every piece has a written description and condition notes.
- The shop, cart and checkout work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "Skip to main content" link.
- The cart tells screen readers what was added or removed and the new total.
- Text and buttons meet WCAG AA colour contrast.
- Form fields have labels, and if something's missing we say what and take you to it.
- Moving decorations (the drifting embers, the garland and the shop cat) stay still when your device asks for reduced motion.
- The quiet fire-crackle sound can be turned off at any time with the speaker button at the top of every page, and it stays off on later visits. It starts off if your device asks for reduced motion.
Known limitations
Some product videos don't have captions yet. Every piece with a video also has a full written description, and we're adding captions.
Need help, or found a problem?
If anything on this site is hard to use, tell us and we'll make it right. Email [email protected] and we'll reply within 2 business days. We're glad to describe any piece in more detail, send more photos or measurements, or take your order by email instead.
It helps to know the page, what happened, and (only if you're comfortable sharing) what you use to browse, such as a screen reader or magnifier.
